-NO-

Spring Summer 2017

For Spring/Summer 2017, Carolin Holzhuber named her collection – NO – due to making a statement against the fashion industry. As many designers choose to fight back against the breakneck speed of the fashion cycle and the unbalanced scales of the craft leaning more and more towards profit rather than art form, Holzhuber looks to the small but powerful statement – No -. Taking a stand against tumultuous times and systems, the strength and stability in the designs are unwavering. Design and quality take center stage.

Using the word – NO- shows Carolin being the black sheep – she goes “against the systems and politics that are driven by power and money, and not by humanity and love.”

Complex, dynamic constructions mixed with traditional and handcrafted methods along with new innovative materials such as carbon fibre, Carolin makes her creations with soul. Through the embracing of negative space, making the beauty of the wearer‘s bare skin just as important as the fine nappa as well as calf leathers and Austrian made carbon fibers Holzhuber so skillfully employs. Made with meticulous care by hand in her east London studio, Holzhuber’s focus on detail is ever present, giving life a meaning to each pair made.

A color palette of copper, olive green and black contrasts beautifully with nudes and pinks. A sculptural, pink-wedged sandal with no back heel towers high. Continuing on the invisible back heel, a black knee-high sandal boot is almost backless and is geometrically stimulating to the eye. An olive green shoe with a black and copper heel and platform along with a nude and black pump are Carolin’s more simplified designs — again, they are certainly not simple. The most unique shoe visually is an all-black open toe shoe that features a platform and copper heel that is on a 45-degree angle.

Carolin Holzhuber shows onlookers that innovation truly exists in fashion as she pushes the limits of what we think is beautiful as well as wearable.
Carolin Holzhuber‘s structural pieces leave no room for misunderstanding the power in her statement -NO-.
